Grilled Bacon Ranch Foil Packet Potatoes.    Potatoes  on of the most perfect disaster and survival foods available.  they are filling, don’t need refrigeration, are super nutritious… one can almost survive totally on a potato diet and they are versatile to cook with. This foil packet recipe is great for making ahead of time and can be easily stored with little or no refrigeration for up to 48 hours due to the salted, preservative nature of bacon.  Makes a welcome and hearty dish in any disaster.

  • 3 sheets heavy-duty aluminum foil
  • 12 baby red potatoes, unpeeled, thinly sliced(any type potato will work)
  • 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 packet ranch dressing mix
  • salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 Tbsp butter


1. Heat an outdoor grill (briquette or gall or use a campfire coal based fire) to medium heat. Spray each sheet of foil with cooking spray.

2. Top each sheet with equal portions of potatoes, bacon, and ranch dressing mix. Add salt and pepper to taste. Add 1 tablespoon of butter to each serving. Wrap securely.

3. Cook for 25 minutes directly on the grill, or until the potatoes are completely cooked. Let stand 10 minutes before unwrapping foil packets. Serve in foil.
