Dutch Oven Survival Pizza is survival cooking at its finest.  This is a go to comfort food dish, that is easy and quick to prepare in just about any emergency or survival cooking situation.

Pizza in a Dutch Oven is so simple it almost makes itself.   Just load up some coals in a fire pit, make the dough (it’s easy, warm water, flour, a bit of salt and some yeast, kneed it up and let it rise for an hour or two and you are good to go!)  add your toppings (even without sauce!) and go to town!

Ingredients:

  • Vegetable oil
  • Tube of pre-made pizza crust (or make your own)
  • Small can of tomato sauce
  • Shredded mozzarella cheese
  • Grated cheddar cheese
  • Garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Sliced onions; pepers ;olives; anything really!
  • Pepperoni Slices/bacon/sausage chunks (whatever meat topping you may have laying around)

Directions:

  1. Pour vegetable oil in the cold Dutch Oven, spreading it around the bottom and sides of the Dutch Oven. (don’t over oil)
  2. Take the pizza dough out of the tube and split it in half. Spread half of the dough in the bottom of the Dutch Oven.
  3. Spread the tomato sauce over the pizza dough and sprinkle with garlic powder, salt, and pepper to taste.
  4. Place the Dutch Oven with the prepared pizza on the hot coals.
  5. Place the lid on the Dutch Oven and place hot coals on the lid to start the baking process (this allows the dough to bake and the toppings to cook through). Bake for approximately 10 minutes or until done.
  6. After the pizza has cooked approximately 10 minutes and the dough is baked, remove the lid.
  7. Sprinkle the mozzarella cheese and cheddar cheese over the top of the hot pizza.
